Girls track team warms up before practice. The team recently won the Warrior Invitational, as well as other meets.

This year the girls indoor track team is back and going after a third state championship. “Our goal is the same as always,” Coach Bradley Duvall says, “[to] win the county meet, regional meet, and state meet.”

Having won the state championship the past 2 years and the county championship the past 11, the team and coaches are confident they can win another. “We are certainly one of the favorites in both meets and based on the toughness and depth of our team, I believe we will find a way to win,” says Duvall.

The team has won all of their league meets this year so far and well on their way to winning more throughout the rest of the season. “We all want the best for each other,” Emily Francis (’19) says. “It’s a group effort.”

Runners such as Emily Konkus (’19) and Kara Schmidt (’18) have been achieving new personal records and season records all season long.  Konkus ran 5:19 in the 1600 meter while Schmidt ran 2:23 in the 800 meter, both attaining personal records. These times were achieved by “the training and hard work we put into practice every day” Schmidt says.

The state championship will be held Feb. 19 at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. Check in next month to see if the team has brought home another state championship.
