A year ago, Coach Sam Slater was on the soccer field playing center back for McDaniel College. He is now one of two new staff additions to the physical education department. Studying kinesiology and physical education in college, Slater has had his eyes set on teaching P.E.

Slater encourages everyone to be active and loves pushing people out of their comfort zone. He enjoys teaching outdoors, especially flag football, and on his own time, Slater is passionate about playing and watching sports.

Slater’s aunt Mrs. Susan Slater, former guidance counselor at Hereford, pitched the idea of her nephew joining the staff.

Playing Division III soccer and studying physical education at McDaniel, Slater had to perform a balancing act to stay on top of his workload. To anyone planning on playing a sport in college, he advises letting professors know ahead of time, taking advantage of free time and staying organized.

Slater is the assistant coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team.
