“So, what did you learn in school today?” Sound familiar?  When your parent asks you this I bet 99 percent of the time your answer is “nothing.”

These days I feel like school is all about meeting deadlines and turning in assignments on time.  Not at all about actually learning and understanding the content.  After getting home from school and sports I am so tired that all I focus on is getting my homework done.

When I have to read out of a textbook and answer questions about what I read, I usually just skim the text until I find the answer.  I know when I do that I’m missing out on information, but I feel that I just need to get it done.

Yes, homework is important because it tests to see if you can do what you learned in class on your own, but five hours of it is extensive.  I feel like more teachers need to understand that students’ lives don’t revolve around their class.  Students stay up all night studying or doing homework and then they come to school the next day too exhausted to listen in class.

When it comes to the test or quiz, everyone is cramming the night before to learn the material.  At the end of the year when the final exam comes, do you remember the content?  Or do you have to review all over again?  I don’t know about you but I have to pretty much re-learn everything.  So, did you really learn it?

“What did you learn in school today?” Or “What did you get done in school today?”
