Around four million students and adults took to the streets on Sept. 20 to protest the current stage of climate change on Earth. These protests are estimated to be the largest in history and took place in a wide range of countries and cities. Places from Australia to Uruguay had students walkout from schools to take part in the protests. The demonstrations come as many people around the world are worried about our planet surpassing the two-degrees Celsius maximum increase projected by the United Nations and most climate scientists. The demands of the protesters included immediate action to lessen the toll of climate change including the phasing out of fossil fuel usage, government support of clean renewable energy, and ways to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Another climate strike, the Earth Strike, is planned to occur on Sept. 27.
