Basketball coach Jim Rhoads, along with the boys’ varsity basketball team, will be taking part in the Coaches vs. Cancer Three-Point Challenge throughout the month of January, with a goal of raising $1,000. This fundraiser, which was organized through the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the American Cancer Society, asks for donations; either a one-time donation or a donation for every three-point shot made this month are accepted.

“All of us have someone we love that has had to face this disease,” said Rhoads. “I thought it would be a great idea to get our basketball program involved in raising money for this important cause.”

During halftime of the game on Friday, Jan. 19, Sean Payne (’18) will compete in a shoot-out against Vice Principal William Brown after having his name selected from the fundraiser taking place this week during enrichment.

“My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer five years ago,” said Payne. “It was like donating money for the [American Cancer Society] and beating Mr. Brown’s butt.”
