Teachers share retro prom pictures

Prom season has come and gone for the graduating class of 2016. Pictures are posted online, memories are made and friendships are strong. Similarly, faculty members also have their fair share of memories from prom. World History teacher, Edward Martin, spent his prom night as the prom king.

“It was actually kind of odd,” Martin said. “My girlfriend really wanted to do it so she did all the fliers, and put us on the poll. They called my name first and I was worried they weren’t going to call hers, but everything turned out fine.”

Martin is engaged to his prom date, and they have been together for eight years.

“I’m pretty sure our slow dance was “Nothin’ on You” by B.O.B, if I recall correctly,” Martin said.

Math teacher Jillian Watkins also went to her prom. Watkins is now married to her date. “We dated since my sophomore year of high school and his junior year,” Watkins said. “There was no promposal; nobody did that while I was in high school.”

“My prom night was a lot of fun. I met with all my friends beforehand like most people do,” Watkins said. “We took a limo down to the city and we were singing the whole time and danced all night. It was so much fun.”

For Math teacher Trish Middleton, senior prom was not as enjoyable as the rest. “The boy I was dating was from a different school. We had broken up and promised each other we would go to each other’s prom,” Middleton said. “I lost my corsage. It was a disaster.”

“Junior prom was at the high school in the gym and it was more fun,” Middleton said. “The gym was all decorated and there were more friends there.”

“Styx was big at the time so our slow song was probably “Babe”.”

Social Studies Department teacher Randi Jones graduated in 2009.

“My prom night was awesome,” Jones said. “We didn’t have a junior prom only a senior prom.”

“My date was my high school boyfriend. We dated our senior year of high school and freshmen year of college.”

Unlike Martin, Jones did not have a slow dance. “I remember there was no slow dance!” Jones said.

Similar to Watkins, Jones did not get a promposal. “I was not one of those lucky girls.”
