Seventeen

Today, I turn seventeen years of age. Am I excited? No, not really. There are very few perks of being seventeen, so I am mostly just reminded of the fact that I am closer to dying.

I can get in to R rated movies now that I’m seventeen, but many of my friends are still sixteen, so I still have to wait a while until I can fully take advantage of this ability. I can also get my license in a week, but technically people can get there license at sixteen and nine months. For the most part, however, there are a lot more benefits for being eighteen.

Being seventeen really isn’t all that great. I can already feel the effects of being older.  My back always hurts, my hair is turning gray, and I can’t remember anyone’s names. I only have a few years left. This day is just a saddening reminder that I am very close to leaving this world behind.
